They are often used in commercial kitchens and bars for wiping down surfaces and cleaning up spills. Here are some different types of bar mops that are commonly manufactured:
- White bar mops: These are the most common type of bar mop and are typically made from 100% cotton. They are soft, absorbent, and can be used for a variety of cleaning tasks.
- Colored bar mops: These bar mops are made from colored cotton or cotton blends and are often used in color-coded cleaning systems. Different colors can be assigned to different tasks or areas to prevent cross-contamination.

Common materials used for manufacturing bar mop towels
Bar mops / bar towels are typically made from a variety of materials, but the most common material composition is cotton or a cotton blend. Some of the other materials that can be used for making bar mops include:
- 100% cotton: This is the most common material used for making cotton bar mops. Cotton is absorbent, durable, and easy to clean. It is also a natural material that is free from synthetic chemicals and allergens.
- Yarn count range: 10s to 20s
- GSM range: 200 to 400 GSM
- Cotton-polyester blend: Bar mops made from a cotton-polyester blend can offer the benefits of both materials. Cotton provides absorbency and durability, while polyester adds strength and reduces shrinkage.
- Yarn count range: 16s to 20s
- GSM range: 200 to 400 GSM
- Microfiber: Microfiber bar mops are made from a human made/synthetic material that are very absorbent and capable of capturing dirt and bacteria. They are often used in environments where hygiene is a top priority, such as hospitals or food processing facilities.
- Yarn count range: Not applicable (microfiber is a synthetic material)
- GSM range: 200 to 400 GSM
- Bamboo: Bar mops made from bamboo are becoming more popular as they are eco-friendly and sustainable. Bamboo is naturally antibacterial and highly absorbent.
- Yarn count range: 20s to 30s
- GSM range: 200 to 400 GSM
- Linen: Bar mops made from linen are lightweight, durable, and highly absorbent. Linen is also naturally antibacterial and easy to clean.
- Yarn count range: 10s to 20s
- GSM range: 200 to 400 GSM
It’s worth noting that these ranges are general guidelines and can vary depending on the specific manufacturer and product. Ultimately, the choice of yarn count and GSM will depend on the desired characteristics of the bar mop, such as absorbency, durability, and softness.

The standard size for bar mops is typically around 16 inches by 19 inches (40.6 cm by 48.3 cm). However, custom sizes are also available to meet the specific needs of different users and applications. Some common custom sizes for bar mops include:
- Small: 12 inches by 12 inches (30.5 cm by 30.5 cm)

- Large: 18 inches by 24 inches (45.7 cm by 61 cm)
- Extra Large: 24 inches by 36 inches (61 cm by 91.4 cm)
Custom sizes can also be made to fit specific cleaning equipment, such as mop heads or wiping systems. The size of the bar mop will depend on the intended use, the surface being cleaned, and the preference of the user.
Most Preferred Designs
Bar mops are typically designed for practical use in cleaning and wiping tasks, so their designs are usually simple and functional. However, some manufacturers offer customization options that allow users to add their logos, slogans, or other branding elements to the bar mops. Here are some of the common designs of bar mops that are commonly made:
- Solid color: Bar mops are often available in solid colors such as white, black, or blue. This makes them easy to coordinate with existing cleaning equipment or uniforms.
- Stripes: Also called, Striped bar mops. Some bar mops feature a stripe pattern, which can help differentiate them from other cleaning cloths or indicate their intended use (e.g., blue stripes for use in a kitchen, red stripes for use in a bathroom). Sometimes referred to as kitchen bar mops or cleaning bar mops.
- Checkerboard: Bar mops with a checkerboard pattern feature alternating squares of two different colors, which can make them easy to identify and keep track of.
- Custom designs: Some customers need custom design options, such as logos, slogans, or other branding elements to the bar mops. This can be a great way to promote a business or organization while also keeping things clean and tidy.
Lint-Free Bar Mops
Bar mops are often preferred to be lint-free, especially in applications where lint or fibers could pose a problem, such as in food service or medical environments. Lint or loose fibers from cleaning cloths or towels can potentially contaminate surfaces or products, which is why lint-free bar mops are preferred.
Some materials, such as microfiber bar mops, are inherently lint-free and are commonly used for making bar mops. However, even with other materials like cotton or cotton blends, the manufacturing process can include steps to minimize lint, such as using combed cotton yarn or pre-washing the fabric to remove excess fibers.
It’s important to note that no cleaning cloth or towel can be completely free of lint or fibers, as some shedding is inevitable with repeated use and laundering. However, by choosing high-quality, lint-minimizing materials and following proper care instructions, the amount of lint and fibers can be kept to a minimum.
